Mississippians to employ
energy-saving tips such as:
Using compact fluorescent light
bulbs instead of incandescent
light bulbs; turning off lights
in empty rooms; buying home
appliances that carry the ENERGY
STAR® symbol;
unplugging appliances that are
not used often; and driving

Port
Risk Assessment Possible
Members of the Warren County Port
Commission heard from Allied Research
Associates, Inc., that Vicksburg, ranked
by the U. S. Department of Homeland
Security as one of the nation's
"100 critical ports" could
receive Federal grants to evaluate
terrorism risks. Similar
assistance could be provided to the
Bridge Commission.
Bunge-Ergon:
Alternate Fuel
Bunge-Ergon is now in operation.
This 54 million gallon per year plan has
begun producing fuel grade
ethanol. Located on the
Mississippi River at Vicksburg, the
plant is equipped to produce even more
ethanol as demand increases.
Currently, half the gasoline sold in the
United States is blended with ethanol.
Port
Workers Enroll in TSA Program
Port workers, truckers and others at the
Port of Vicksburg are enrolling in the
Department of Homeland Security's
Transportation Workers Identification
Credential Program. The program
ensures that unescorted workers have
received a thorough background check and
are not a security threat.
